Donald "Popeye" Joseph Settles, Sr.

Donald Joseph "Popeye" Settles Sr., 50 of Litchfield, IL, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at his residence in Litchfield, IL.  

Donald was born April 28, 1973, in Litchfield, IL, a son of Ronald Lee and Janet Sue (Wendel) Gelsinger. Donald graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1991 and joined the Navy. He married Jamie Lasko May 6, 2010, at The Point at Lake Lou Yeager, Litchfield, IL. During his service in the Navy, he was a gas turbine mechanic and served in Desert Storm. He had worked at Menell Milling in Mt. Olive, IL and was last employed as a union miller at Olin Brass in Alton, IL.

He was a member of the Litchfield VFW, and was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, NASCAR, and the St. Louis Cardinals, a love he shared with his daughter, Isy. His favorite holiday was 4th of July, he loved fireworks and making sure his son Dalton always had the best birthday. Donnie Jo was always the life of the party and loved entertaining everyone around him. He loved his family and friends deeply.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, 2:00-5:00 pm at Litchfield Family Funeral Service, Litchfield, IL.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 5:00 pm, Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Litchfield Family Funeral Service, Litchfield.

Don was preceded in death by his father, Ron Gelsinger, in 2009. 

Donald is survived by his spouse, Jamie Michelle Lasko of Litchfield, IL, mother, Janet Sue Gelsinger of Carlinville, IL, daughter, Brittany (Fiancé Zachary Cook) Settles of Pekin, IL, son, Donald "DJ" (Mary'a) Settles, Jr. of Spring, TX, daughter, Isabelle Lasko of Gillespie, IL, son, Dalton Settles of Litchfield, IL, grandchildren: Skylar, Cayden, Eva, Karson, Rylie, Hunter, Carrie, and  Breyer, brother, Robert Settles of MO, sister, Joanna (Paul) Maberry of Litchfield, IL, sister, Sharon (Tom) Stoecker of Worden, IL, brother, Johnny (Stanett) Settles of Litchfield, IL, brother, Ronnie (Sarah) Gelsinger of Litchfield, IL, father-in-law, John (companion Erika) Lasko of Litchfield, IL, sister-in-law Kathleen (companion, J.W.) Lasko of Litchfield, IL, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
