Betty S. Monke

Betty S. Monke, 93, of Litchfield, IL, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 8:03 P.M. at the Carlinville Rehabilitation and HealthCare Center in Carlinville, IL.

She was born on January 31, 1924, in Litchfield, IL, the daughter of Chester and Lucille (Owens) Sullivan.

Betty married Frederick A. Monke on March 22 1942, in Long Beach, CA. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1982.

Betty was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, IL and Montgomery County Farm Bureau. 

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and farm wife. She was a great cook, and she loved to knit and crochet. She loved flowers and plants and enjoyed annual fishing trips to Minnesota. Betty also enjoyed playing cards and bingo with her friends.

Betty is survived by:

Daughter, Nancy Travis of Springfield, IL; Son, James (Wanda) Monke of Litchfield, IL; Grandchildren, Jamie (Robert) Street of Valpo, IN, Brent (Kim) Monke of Litchfield, IL; Great-grandchildren, Emily Street, Abby Street, Olivia Street, Joseph Street, Lauren Monke, Addison  Monke, Dillon & Alyssa Monke.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Tom, and grandson, Todd Monke.

                             Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, IL. Pastor Fred Kraemer will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10:00 until service time at the church. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield, IL. The family suggest memorial contributions be directed to Zion Lutheran Church.
