Gary L. Bernhardt

Gary Bernhardt, 76 , of Litchfield, IL, passed away Monday morning, August 14, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Gary was born on March 6, 1941 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, IL, a son of the late Lydle & Esther (Kuethe) Bernhardt.

He married the former Janet Oller on July 24, 1965 at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, IL.

Gary was a graduate of Edwardsville High School, graduating with the class of 1958.

Gary was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and was a truck driver for Schmidt Trucking, Buske, and Wolf all in Litchfield before retiring in 2011.

Mr. Bernhardt was a member of the ST. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairietown, IL and a member of the Litchfield Moose Lodge.

Gary enjoyed working and spending time with his family. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, cheering them on through the good and bad days. He enjoyed cattle and was a Jack of all Trades.

Along with his wife, Janet, he is survived by his children, Rod (Becky) Bernhardt of Carlinville, Jeff (Tisha) Bernhardt of Litchfield, & Jamie (Doug) Neverdowski of Gillespie; 8 grandchildren; brothers, Dale (Carol) of Livingston, Armin Bernhardt of Woodriver; sisters, Virginia Singleton of Moro, IL, Mary Ann (Jack) Brandon of Springfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Ronnie Bernhardt.

Graveside services will be held Friday, August 18, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. at the Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield, IL. Rev. Dale Skeesick, minister of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairietown, IL, will officiate. A Celebration of Life will be held following the graveside services at the Litchfield Moose Lodge from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. The family suggests memorials be directed to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
