John Norman Behrendt

John Norman Behrendt, 80, of East Lansing, MI, formerly of Litchfield, IL, passed away on Monday morning, January 20, 2020 at Burcham Hills Retirement Community in East Lansing, MI. 

He was born July 23, 1939 in Dixon, IL to Alvin Charles Behrendt and Vernice Lula Gale. 

John graduated from Sterling High School and obtained his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration at Carthage College. Afterwards, he worked for Litchfield Grocer Company for 40 years. John married Marilyn Sue Driskell on November 4, 1961 in Litchfield, IL, and she preceded him in death on November 7, 2016. 

Throughout his life, John was an active member of many community organizations. He participated as a Rotarian at both local and district levels, as well as on several international projects and advisory boards. He was also a member and an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Litchfield, before later joining the First Presbyterian Church of Ambler, Pennsylvania and The Peoples Church in East Lansing. 

John is survived by two daughters, Amy Moore of Haslett, Michigan and Beth (Jon) Lundy of Okemos, Michigan, and five grandchildren: Jennifer (Eric) Krzak, Sarah Lundy, David Moore, Claire Lundy, and Christian Lundy. Also surviving are a brother, Dwight (Lynne) Behrendt, a niece, Sara Jacklin, and a nephew, Jay Behrendt.

Visitation will be held Saturday, January 25, 2020 from 1:00 until 3:00 P.M. at the Litchfield Family Funeral Service in Litchfield, IL. A private, graveside service will follow at Litchfield’s Elmwood Cemetery. The family of Mr. John Behrendt suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Rotary International Foundation’s Polio Plus Fund.
