John P Blevins

John Palmer Blevins, 89, of Hornsby, IL, passed away Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 6:50 A.M. at the Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care in Gillespie, IL.

He was born on November 29, 1928 in Gillespie, IL, a son of Henry Palmer & Goldie Mae (Shuey) Blevins.

John married the former Virginia (Root) Beck on May 2, 1970 in Hillsboro, IL and she preceded him in death on February 15, 2011.

He was a Coal Miner at Crown Mining in Virden and Farmersville, IL where he retired in 1987.

John enjoyed listening to and playing bluegrass music. He especially enjoyed playing his homemade fiddle. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and being outside enjoying the farm life. He also loved to tell stories about the good ol’ days and working on cars.

John is survived by his children, Rhoda (Lonnie) Gipson of Greenville, IL, Charlotte (James, Jr.) Jones of Mt. Olive, IL, Lois Turner of Wichita, KS, Virginia Voyles of Dallas, TX & Henry (Belinda) Blevins of Gillespie, IL. Step-children; Sherrie (Lance) Stout of Greenville, IL, Jeffrey (Lisa Lawson) Beck of Litchfield, IL, Brenda Beck of Litchfield, IL, Kimberly Beck of FL, and Marvin Beck of Litchfield, IL. 9 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, & 4 step-great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Dean Blevins of Hillsboro, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, siblings,  Albert Blevins, Raymond Blevins, Robert Blevins, Annamay Blevins, Rose Zumwalt, & son, George Harley Blevins. 

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Litchfield Southern Baptist Church in Litchfield, IL.  Pastor Mike Rogers will officiate. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until service time in the church. Burial will be in the Kinder Cemetery in Hornsby, IL. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the family of John.
