Ralph D. Elam, 95, of Walshville, IL, passed away May 5, 2019 at 3:15 P.M. at the Montgomery County Rehab and Healthcare Center of Hillsboro in Hillsboro, IL.
Ralph was born on April 8, 1924 in Fayette County in Vandalia, IL, a son of the late James Rude and Susan Ethel (Hoyle) Elam
He married the former Retha Marie Devall on March 21, 1946, they shared 73 years together. She survives.
Ralph retired in 1989 after working 25 years at Hano Business Forms in Mt. Olive, IL, and was a Baptist Minister since 1962 and a member of the Walshville Baptist Church in Walshville, IL.
He enjoyed woodworking and doing crafts.
He is survived by his children:
Catherine E. (Alan) Titsworth of Chatham, IL; Nora (Melvin) Fenton of Salem, MO; Rudy (Susan) Elam of Mt. Olive, IL; 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren & 6 great-great grandchildren.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, son, Kerry Elam, daughter in law, Norma Elam, granddaughter, Romona in infancy, sisters, Erma Ellsworth, Edna Carey, Elsie Lowber, Ethel Norman, and Elois Ballard, brothers, Richard and Ray Elam
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at the Walshville Baptist Church in Walshville, IL. Pastor Oley Lawson will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery near Vanburensburg, IL. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, May 8, 2019 from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Litchfield Family Funeral Service in Litchfield, IL. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Walshville Baptist Church or Green Hill Cemetery.
