William J Jones, Jr.

William J. Jones Jr., 71, of Litchfield passed away Friday, August 31, 2018, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Bill was born January 4, 1947, in Vincennes, IN, a son of William James Sr. and Geraldine (Bellamy) Jones.

He graduated from North Knox High School in Vincennes with the class of 1965. After graduation, he joined the National Guard and served from 1965-1971.

He married Doris Cox at the Litchfield Methodist Church on November 10, 1967.

Bill was a hard-working, quiet man. He was a coal miner in Coffeen and Farmersville for over 36 years working as a roof bolter, buggy operator, and foreman. He also worked at Milnot Creamery, the Litchfield school district, and the street department all in Litchfield. Bill loved his family and was involved in youth sports over the years, coaching most of his son’s and grandson’s teams. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Indiana Hoosier fan.

Bill is survived by his wife, Doris A. Jones, son, William J. (Kathleen) Jones III, and grandson, Andrew Jones all of Litchfield. Surviving also are siblings: sister, Judith Lamson of Clayton, IN; brother, Robert L. (Stephanie) Jones of Litchfield; sister, Shirley (Jack) Stamer of Henderson, NV; sister, Barbara (Joe) Jones of Wichita, KS; sister, Karen Jones of Litchfield; brother, Jerry (Joni) Jones of Divernon, IL; and brother, Johnny (Kate) Jones of Hillsboro, IL. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Litchfield Family Funeral Service in Litchfield, IL. Rev. Ed Fogle will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday morning, 9:00-11:00 at Litchfield Family Funeral Service. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield, IL
