90, of Litchfield, Wednesday morning, August 17, 2011 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL.Donnis was born Monday, August 15, 1921 in Prairietown, IL, the daughter of Miles and Esther (Whitfield) Slightom. Donnis married Lester Harold "Hatch" Pettijohn at the Union Ave. Christian Church Parsonage on January 11, 1944.Donnis was employed during the war at Western Cartledge in Alton, IL. She was later employed at Brown Shoe Co., Newbury, House of Sunshine, Milnot Corp. and was a stitcher at Roller Derby. She retired in 1965. Donnis has been a member since 1957, at the New Hope Baptist Church in rural Litchfield where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was a chapter mother and state mother for the Future Homemakers of America and was a member of the Honey Bend Quilt Club. Donnis loved to quilt and was an avid collector of different antique glassware.

Surviving are husband, Lester Harold "Hatch" Pettijohn of Litchfield, daughter, Sharon J. Hill, husband John of Bay City, MI, daughter, Gloria Pettijohn, husband Ron Peters of Eureka, MO, foster son, John Aber, wife Kris of Wright City, MO, foster son, Gene Aber, wife Debbie of Gillespie, granddaughter, Laura Alms of Denver, CO, granddaughter, Shauna Bezilla of Harbor Springs, MI, granddaughter, Krista Pfeiffer of Dearborn, MI, grandson, Ryan Hermsmeyer of Wildwood, MO, 7 great grandchildren, brother, Dwight Slightom, wife LaVerne of Raymond, brother, Tom Slightom of Carlinville, sister, Carol Boehme, husband Leland of Taylorville, sister-in-law, Irene Slightom of Atwater, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Donald, Dean, Darrell and Gordon Dwayne Slightom and sisters, Cora Wolff and Shirley Carroll.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, August 19 at Litchfield Family Funeral Service in Litchfield, Illinois.

Funeral service will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 20, 2011 at New Hope Baptist Church in rural Litchfield. Rev. Roy Eller will officiate.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield.

Memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church.
