Dorothy Rose (Wesley) Burch

Dorothy Rose Wesley Burch of the Litchfield area, formerly of Carlinville, IL passed away Tuesday Morning, January 13, 2015 in St. Francis Hospital at 4:40 A.M. in Litchfield, at the age of 100. She asked her body be donated to St. Louis University School of Medicine.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Union Avenue Christian Church in Litchfield, IL. Reverend Jay Johnson will officiate.

Born in Mt. Clare, Illinois, October 20, 1914, Dorothy was the daughter of Charles and Rose (Mueller) Wesley. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1930 and married Nicholas Burch in 1934. She and Nicholas had four children, daughter Mari Lynn, twin sons James and Nicholas, and daughter Jamel. Dorothy’s union with Nicholas was 65 years until his death in 2003 at the age of 90.

Moving to Litchfield in the late 40s Dorothy was a member of the Union Avenue Christian Church and remained a member until her death. Dorothy worked for Worley Clothing Store during that time and was also a small neighborhood grocer in the sound end of town.

In 1953 she and her family moved to Carlinville, Illinois in where she and Nicholas started the Credit Bureau of Macoupin County until their retirement in 1964. Dorothy was very active in the community of Carlinville where she served as a Girl Scout and Brownie Leader in the 50s, was President of the Business and Professional Woman’s Club and was Secretary of the Homemakers Extension Association of Carlinville.

Surviving is her daughter, Jamel Billiter of Litchfield, Illinois, grandsons Benjamin Lippold and wife Jennifer of Carlinville, Gregory Lippold and wife Lana of Tulsa, Oklahoma and four great grandchildren, Kirsten, Bailey, Rylan and Austin.

Preceded her in death was her husband, Nicholas, daughter Mari Lynn DeBolt, twin sons James and Nicholas, brothers, James Wesley, Charles (Miller) Wesley, and John Wesley.

Memorials may be sent to the Union Avenue Christian Church of Litchfield.
