Elsie M. (Harms) Scherer

Elsie M. Scherer, 87 of Litchfield passed away Thursday afternoon, April 20, 2017 at HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, IL.

She was born on November 10, 1929 in Atwater, IL, a daughter of William and Anna (Schmidt) Harms.  

Elsie married Merle Scherer on June 30, 1951 and he passed away November 23, 1980.

For the past 60 years, Elsie had worked at several local restaurants, including The Gardens and Saratoga in Litchfield, Deer Run Inn in Carlinville and recently at Litchfield Bowl as a waitress and cook. Elsie was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield and enjoyed gardening, mowing her lawn, canning, quilting, crafts and especially yard sales. She was known for infectious smile.

Elsie is survived by her son, Glenn William "Bill" (Lisa G.) Scherer of Carlinville, IL, 8 grandchildren, several great-grand and great-great grandchildren, sister Carolyn Harms of Litchfield, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Shirley White in 2014, brothers; Melvin and Dale Harms, sisters; Frieda Tabaka, Wilma Goodwin and Gladys Owens.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 24, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 at Litchfield Family Funeral Service 700 South State Street in Litchfield, IL. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 10:00 am at the funeral home withRev. John Tabaka officiating.

Burial will be in Moore Cemetery in rural Carlinville.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Lutheran Church or Litchfield Food Pantry.
