Frederick Long

Frederick J. Long , 79, of Butler passed away, Monday, March 4, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, IL.

Fred was born July 7, 1933, in Cresco, IA, one of two sons born to Charles and Frances (Dotzler) Long.

Fred married Carolyn (Owens) October 3, 1964 at Ft. Harrison Military Chapel, in Indianapolis, IN.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents and brother Leonard Long.

After serving 20 years in the United States Navy, he retired as Chief Petty Officer. He served as the trauma coordinator of the newly formed Illinois Statewide Trauma Program based at St. Francis Hospital. After the trauma program was phased out, Fred accepted a position in Environmental Services at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, IL.

Friends may call, Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Litchfield Family Funeral Service, 700 South State Street in Litchfield.

Private Family Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 8, 2013, at Litchfield Family Funeral Service.

Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Litchfield

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn of Butler; sister, Ardith Crimmins Stillwater, MN; sons, Michael Long and Patrick (Stephanie) Long both of Hillsboro; daughters, Kathleen Estell of Greensboro, NC and Colleen Dyer of Butler; grandchildren, Lauren, Christopher, Ysabelle and Graci.

Memorials are suggested the Veterans Monument in Litchfield.
