Litchfield- George A. Lankutis, 83 of Litchfield, passed away Sunday afternoon, July 15, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield
George was born on August 21, 1928 in Gillespie, IL the son of Frank and Petranella (Kaskus) Lankustis. He graduated from Gillespie High School with the class of 1947 and served in the Army from 1951 to 1953. George married Carol Watkins on November 1, 1952, in Litchfield at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
George started his work career off as a coal miner at Little Dog Mine in Gillespie. Later he worked as a machine operator for AO Smith for 25 years in Granite City, IL. After retirement he was employed with the Litchfield School District in the custodial department for 12 years as well as the First National Bank in Litchfield. He proudly owned J & L Bike Shop for several years. George was a member of First Baptist Church in Litchfield, IL.
George loved his God, family, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as carpentering, gardening and his dog "Pug".
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2012 from 1:30-2:30 at Litchfield Family Funeral Service at 700 South State Street in Litchfield where funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm at the funeral home with Father Ted Schelich chaplain for St. Francis Hospital officiating and granddaughter Kelsey Ann Wayman delivering the eulogy.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery with military rites delivered by the VFW Post # 3912.
Pallbearers; Dwayne, Nathan & Kyle Wayman, John Franklin, Scott White and Jason Wood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Veito and sisters Stella Durmont and Bea Lankutis.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Lankutis, son, Harold L. (Brenda S.) Lankutis, son, James A. Lankutis, daughter, Brenda (Dwayne) Wayman, son, Lee G (Sandy). Lankutis all of Litchfield, 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, sister, Alda Lankutis, St. Louis, MO , sister, Dolly Moon, Belleville and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given in George's name to the Montgomery County Cancer Society.
