Gertrude Anna (Ploczizka) Wreath

Gertrude Anna Wreath, 86, of Litchfield, IL, passed away Tuesday morning, March 23, 2021 at 2:35 A.M. at Carlinville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Carlinville, IL.

She was born on April 12, 1934, in Litchfield, IL, a daughter of the late Herman & Minnie (Beck) Ploczizka. She received the washing of regeneration through the water of baptism on April 29, 1934 and confessed her faith in Jesus as her Lord and Savior at her confirmation on March 21, 1948 by Reverend J.L. Strelow at Zion Lutheran Church.

Gertrude married LaVern  W.D. Wreath on May 10, 1953 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, IL. He preceded her in death on March 29, 2019.

She graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1952. Gertrude was reared on the family farm and in her younger years was in 4-H, and showed cattle at fairs and the local Dairy Days, which is where she met her late husband. Gertrude worked for the late Dr. L.G. Allen, M.D. for over 50 years in Litchfield, IL.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years along with her husband. She was a member of Zion Ladies Aid and was known for her Heidelberg Soup. She also worked along her husband as a part-time school custodian. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and taking trips with her family to Branson, MO. She enjoyed gardening, canning, doing embroidery work on quilt blocks and making quilts for her children and grandchildren.  

She is survived by her

Daughters,  Jane (Todd) Davidson of Litchfield, IL & Janet (James, Jr.) Ferrero of Nokomis, IL

Son,  James Wreath of Litchfield, IL

Grandchildren,  Emelia Ferrero of Nokomis, IL & Lance, Paige and Cody Davidson of Litchfield, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, LaVern.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 28, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, IL. Pastor Fred Kraemer will officiate. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 27, 2021 from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Litchfield Family Funeral Service, Litchfield, IL. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield, IL. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Zion Lutheran Church or Coats for Kids.

The service will be live streamed on the Zion Lutheran’s Church facebook page.

Due to COVID-19, CDC guidelines will be followed. Masks will be required and social distancing enforced.
