John Dale Modlin

John Dale Modlin, 91, of Litchfield passed away, Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Heritage Health Care in Gillespie, IL.

John was born August 16, 1921, in Carlinville, IL, a son of James William and Ola Grace (Poole) Modlin. He served in the United States Army during WWII and married Wilma Crouch on July 12, 1943, in St. Louis, MO.

John worked as a farmer for several years in the Dorchester area, as well as working for 22 years in the Physical Plant as Grounds Foreman at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville,IL. He enjoyed automobiles, firearms and was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Visitation was held, Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Litchfield Family Funeral Service, 700 South State Street in Litchfield, IL where funeral services were held at 11:00 am at the funeral home.

Entombment was held in the Mausoleum of Valor at Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery in Carlinville, IL where military graveside rites were performed.

John is survived by his wife, Wilma L. Modlin; sons, John W. (Diana) Modlin of Adair, IL, Richard D. (Linda) Modlin of Sparta, IL and David P. (Debra) Modlin of Mason, IL; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Jean Jones of Alton, IL, Ina (Wilbur) Weidner of Bunker Hill, IL and Patricia Hern of Litchfield, IL; brother, Waldo (Sheila) Modlin of Alton, IL and several nieces and nephews.
