Judith Stroup Obituary

Judith Ann “Judy” Stroup, 71, of Decatur, IL formerly of Litchfield, IL, passed away December 24, 2021 at 11:40 A.M. at University Hospital in Columbia, MO.

She was born on June 9, 1950 in Quincy, IL, a daughter of the late Laurence and Darlene (Coulson) Hull.

When Judy was 12, her family moved to Litchfield, IL where she graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1968. She worked in the accounting department of Illinois Power in Decatur, IL for 27 years and then retired from ICS (International Control Services) in Decatur, IL after 19 years of employment.

She married Lewis Gurley in 1968 and was married for 15 years and together they had 4 children. They later divorced. She then married Wayne Stroup and remained married for 11 years, until their divorce.

In the early days she enjoyed square dancing, playing cards and being a member of the Caterpillar Camping Club. Through her life she was an avid bowler and was in several different leagues. She was very well known for being a skilled seamstress and providing alterations of formal clothing as well as typical patch work. She made many blankets, bedding sets, and quilts for her family. Baking was also her passion and loved to cook for her family. Her Christmas cookies were enjoyed by many and loved by all.

Judy was devoted to her children and grandchildren and was very active in their lives. From welcoming foster children into her home during her first marriage to opening her home to her children’s classmates to live during tough times. She was known as “grandma” to Lane, Emma, Violet, Emery, Phyllis, Nevaeh, Brooklyn, Brenda and Sean. She was considered Momma Judy or Grandma Judy to everyone she met.

Grandchildren, Melinda, Lola, Gus, and Tillie Gurley, Norah Harper, Tristian, Karley, Hailey, Holly Herschberger

Great-granddaughter, Coraline Poland

Sister, Linda (Kenneth) Felsman of Savoy, IL

Brothers, Bill (Georgia) Hull of Litchfield, IL

Dale (Pam) Hull of Litchfield, IL

Larry (Janet) Hull of Atwater, IL

Several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, Lewis Gurley, son, Daniel Gurley and brother Jack Hull,

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 31, 2021 at 12:00 NOON at the Litchfield Family Funeral Service in Litchfield, IL. Pastor Fred Kraemer, minister of Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Honey Bend, IL. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Siteman Cancer Center or Cedar Ridge Cemetery.
