Karin Bayer (Ressler) Butcher, 80, of Johnson City, TN, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Karin was born on September 1, 1945, in Nuremberg, Germany, arriving just one day before the end of World War II. The daughter of Wilhelm (Willy) and Martha Lotte Bayer, she was raised with the resilience of her generation. She graduated from Staatliche Berufsschule technical college in Germany, where she mastered the craft of hairdressing.
In 1967, her first marriage to a U.S. Army soldier brought her across the Atlantic to start a new chapter in America. In the early 1980s, she met the love of her life, Jack W. Butcher. After many years of companionship, they officially wed in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1997.
A dedicated professional, Karin owned and operated Town & Country Beauty Salon in Newport, TN, for several years. She later transitioned to the business world, serving as the operations manager for DermaShield USA in Litchfield, IL until her retirement.
Karin was a woman of strong roots and even stronger convictions. She loved a gripping Stephen King novel, the serenity of the ocean, and the vibrant colors of her vegetable garden in bloom. An exceptional cook, she was best known for her authentic German Rouladen, spatzle and red cabbage dishes that brought her family and friends together around the table.
She was known for her trademark stubbornness and a rare, direct honesty-you always knew exactly where you stood with Karin. Yet beneath that iron-willed exterior was a deep, fierce love for her family. She lived for every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Karin was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack W. Butcher, and her parents, Wilhelm (Willy) and Martha Lotte Bayer.
Karin is survived by her daughter, Birgit (Jonathan) Goldfarb of Jonesborough, TN, son, Tom (Susan) Ressler of Blountville, TN, granddaughter, Amanda Holmquist of Louisville, KY, grandson, Cody (Meg) Ressler of Asheville, NC, granddaughter, Marie (Travis) Taylor of Kingsport, TN, great-granddaughter, Eleanor, great-granddaughter, Caroline, great-grandson, Henry.
A private memorial service will be held in the mountains of East Tennessee in the Spring.
Litchfield Family Funeral Service, Litchfield, IL is in charge of arrangements.
