Linda Jo (Smith) Benning

Linda Jo Benning, 70, died on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Litchfield Family Funeral Service. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 30, beginning at 10 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Litchfield.

Mrs. Benning was born April 25, 1952, in Springfield, to Sherman Ray Smith and Annona Jean “Hess” Smith. She married Marlyn Benning on Dec. 13, 1975, in Springfield, and he survives.

She was baptized in Christ as an infant at the Third Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Lanphier High School in 1970 and Illinois State University in 1974.

Mrs. Benning worked as a legislative secretary for the state of Illinois and a pre-school teacher at Concordia Lutheran Church. She was known for her love of animals, and cherished her time with her children and grandchildren. She loved to read and her family meant everything to her.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Amanda Jo (Bryan) Wood of Troy, IL, Marie Ellen Zirkelbach of Beason, IL and Aaron (Lindsey) Benning of Hillsboro, IL; and grandchildren, Carter, Camden, Ian, Caleb, Faith, Lily, Jacob, Kaelyn and Gavin; Aunt Betty Jo (Russell) Mortimer of Virden, IL.

Mrs. Benning was preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Kristen.
