Retha M. Elam, 97, of Walshville, Il, passed away on Saturday morning, February 22, 2025, at Litchfield Health and Rehab Center in Litchfield, IL.
Retha was born November 28, 1927, in Vandalia, IL, a daughter of Emery and Gustie (Jackson) Devall. Retha graduated from Vandalia High School with the class of 1945. She married Ralph Elam on March 21, 1946, in Vandalia, IL. He later passed on May 5, 2019.
Retha worked at Hano Business Form in Mt. Olive, IL and retired in 1992 after 28 years. The work that brought her the most joy was being a homemaker, quilting, and gardening. She was a member at the Walshville Baptist Church and enjoyed listening to gospel music.
Retha was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Elam, son, Kerry Elam, three brothers, and two sisters.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, 9:30 to 11:00 am at Walshville Baptist Church, Walshville, IL.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Wednesday,February 26, 2025 at Walshville Baptist Church, Walshville, IL.
Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Vanburensburg, IL.
Retha is survived by her daughter, Catherine E. (Alan) Titsworth of Chatham, IL, daughter, Nora Fenton of Salem, MO, son, Rudy G. (Susan) Elam of Mt. Olive, IL, brother, Carl Devall of Kappa, IL, brother, Edward (Kay) Devall of Red Bud, IL, sister, Mary Mabeth Grotts of Scottsbluff, NE, sister, Faye (Bill) McEachern of Fort Collins, CO, 18 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Walshville Baptist Church or Greenhill Cemetery.
