Robert C. Riemenschneider Sr.

Robert Carl Riemenschneider Sr., 85, a lifelong resident of Litchfield, IL, passed away Saturday morning, July 6, 2024, at his home in Litchfield, IL. 

Mr. Riemenschneider was born February 8, 1939, in Litchfield, IL, to Edward John and Irma (Hinz) Riemenschneider. He was married for 63 wonderful years to Carol Lehnert on May 27, 1961. He attended Litchfield schools and was a member of St. Aloysius, St. Mary's, and Holy Family Parish. He was a veteran of the United States military, serving in the army.

Mr. Riemenschneider worked hard his entire life. He helped his brothers haul milk from local farmers; he worked at Brown Shoe Company until their closure in 1976; he helped his father-in-law at the local standard gas station; he maintained the facilities at St. Mary's church and school; and he retired after more than 35 years of service as a custodian and bus driver for the Litchfield school district.

Mr. Riemenschneider loved anything John Deere, and he loved collecting old John Deere tractors. He enjoyed mowing grass, playing on his computer, and doing crossword puzzles. He had fun playing casino games and was both a Cubs and Cardinals fan.

Mr. Riemenschneider was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Verlaine Mehlberg and Irma Jean Clesson, and a brother, Harold Riemenschneider. 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 9 to 11am at Holy Family Parish in Litchfield, IL.

Funeral services will be held immediately afterward at 11am with Rev. Dan Willenborg officiating.

Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield, IL.

Mr. Riemenschneider is survived by his wife, Carol Riemenschneider of Litchfield, IL, a twin brother Ray (Judy) Riemenschneider of Litchfield, IL, and two daughters and two sons; Becky (Gary) Gudgel of Litchfield, IL, Cindy (Tony) Bergman of Litchfield, IL, Bobby (Karen) Riemenschneider of Chatham, IL, and Bradley (companion Teresa Trotter) Riemenschneider of Litchfield, IL. He had seven grandchildren, Cody (Jennifer Gudgel of Litchfield, IL, Dylan (Megan) Gudgel of Litchfield, IL, Tanner (Molly) Bergman of Litchfield, IL, Brooke (Jacob) Bryant of Indianapolis, IN, Taylor (Andrew) Jones of Litchfield, IL, Breanna (Fiance Trey McCormick) Riemenschneider of St. Joseph, IL, and Bryce Riemenschneider of Edwardsville, IL. He also had seven great-grandchildren and several niece and nephews. 

Memorials may be made to Holy Family Parish and to St. Clare Food Pantry.
