Ruby Catherine Marit

Ruby was born on February 4, 1931, in Como Mississippi, the youngest of 12 siblings, to Elmer and Martha (Traumall) Ellis.

Ruby proudly entered into the United States Air Force on June 22, 1951, serving during WWII and earning the rank of Staff Sargent. During her service time, Ruby was awarded the National Defense Medal as well as the Good Conduct Medal.

Ruby married Donald Frank Marit on September 14, 1957 and he preceded her in death on September 8, 1964 overseas while serving in the Armed Forces.

Upon returning home, Ruby became a Certified Nursing Assistant and was a home health care provider before retiring in 2000.

Ruby was a member of the First Baptist Church in Litchfield where she attended every Sunday until she was unable to do so. She was a life-long gold star member of the American Legion Ladies Auxillary #436 and the VFW Auxiliary Post #3912, both in Litchfield. Ruby also achieved the rank of Boy Scout Master.

You always knew when the Cardinals were playing because you could hear Ruby cheering from down the street as rooted for her favorite team. She loved to sit outside and watch as everyone was passing by and volunteering for several community events.

Ruby is survived by her son, Brian (Dee) of Litchfield,

Chelsey (Joe) Wallace

10 great-grandchildren, (who she had very special names for) and one on the way.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, infant son, Clayton Ellis and 12 brothers and sisters.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield , IL. Visitation will be held Monday evening, October 10, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 at Litchfield Family Funeral Service.

Burial will commence at the Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, IL.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project.
