Steven Simon Obituary

Steven Phillip Simon, 68, of Walshville, IL passed away Thursday, October 30, 2025, in Springfield, IL

Steve was born on September 23, 1957, to Phillip and Marilyn (Leet) Simon in Johnson City, NY. On April 16, 2011, he married Ruth White at The Christian Church of Litchfield.

Steve graduated from Niles West High School in Skokie, IL with the class of 1975. He then achieved 2 years of college at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines, IL.

He enjoyed camping, deer hunting, and being outdoors. Steve loved to host Concealed Carry classes at his farm.

While living in Idaho, he was a volunteer EMT and was deputized as a fireman and deputy where he performed search and rescue services. He was employed as a Medical Services Supervisor for the National Idaho Correctional Institute in Cottonwood Idaho. Steve's last employment was as a truck driver for Swift, where he worked for 15 years.

Steve was a member of the Christian Church of Litchfield. As a young man, he showed off his incredible voice as a member of the choir. He loved to cook for his family. He made his signature dish “Fooey” for his children to enjoy with their dessert.

Steve is survived by his wife Ruth Simon, three daughters; Tasha Simon of Round Lake IL, Katherine “Scooter” Lee McGregor Simon of Camdenton, MO and Elizabeth Spickerman of St. Louis, MO; three sons; Scott “Boom” Simon of Palatine, IL, Jeremy Simon of Anna, IL and Jonathan Spickerman of Chicago, IL; two granddaughters, Kylie Repple and Scarlett McKays; three grandsons, Jared Murillo, Joseph Vesterfelt, and Owen McGregor Simon; two great grandchildren, Elias Simon and Wesley Simon; three brothers, Dan Simon of Iverness, IL, Donn Simon of El Salvador, and Richard (Judi) Simon of Mt Prospect, IL; and one sister Jennifer “LB” Simon of Elgin, IL, and one nephew, Andrew (Maci) Simon.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Marilyn Simon, Grandparents, Kahramen and Jozel Simon. His grandparents immigrated from Assyria, a heritage he was very proud of. In Assyria his grandfather, Kahramen did not have a last name. Upon arrival to the US at Ellis Island, the official went down a list of names and Simon was the next name to be selected. This was a cherished story.
