Susan Jo Martin, age 58, of Farmersville, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28 after a nearly four-year battle with cancer. She was born March 9, 1957, in Springfield to Kenneth and JoAnn Hickson Austin. The family moved to Pawnee in 1965, and Susan graduated from Pawnee High School in 1975. On Oct. 2, 1976, she married John Martin, her high school sweetheart and the love of her life.
Susan worked at Franklin Life Insurance from 1975-1979, then spent the next 12 years as a stay-at-home mom. In 1991, she began working as a library clerk at the SIU School of Medicine in Springfield. Then, in 1998, Susan began a career at Bank & Trust Company, where she served as branch operations manager at both the Virden and Raymond branches.
Susan loved to travel, especially with her family. She also enjoyed shopping, craft malls and attending country music concerts. She also loved watching sports, including the Indianapolis Colts, Utah Jazz and NASCAR. Her favorite was college basketball. She and John were season ticket holders for the Butler University Bulldogs, whom she referred to as “her boys.”
She was proceeded in death by her parents; son, Blake Kevin; brother Brian Austin; and niece, Margaret JoAnn Mileham. Susan is survived by her husband of 39 years, John; four daughters: Emily of Farmersville, Lindsay, Ashley and Whitney all of Indianapolis; sister Pat (Jim) Mileham of Riverton; brother Mike (Jodee) Austin of Springfield; sister-in-law Luan Austin of Springfield; aunt JoAnn (Darrell) Tendick of Springfield; uncles Larry (Phyllis) Austin of New Mexico and George Austin of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Mass will be held, Saturday, October 31, 2015, 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Farmersville, IL with Rev. Jerry Bunse officiating. Family and friends may call Friday, October 30, 2015 from 3:00 to 7:00 at the church. Prayer Service will be held at 2:45 P.M.
Burial will take place in St. Martin Cemetery in Farmersville, IL. with Garry & Tyler Todt, Terry Agans, Jim Mileham, Dan Little and Bill Gansbauer serving as pallbearers.
