Walter "Wally" Surgis, Jr. Obituary

Walter "Wally" Surgis Jr., 78 of Litchfield, IL, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2025, at his home in Litchfield, IL.  


Wally was born February 1, 1947, in Springfield, IL, a son of Walter and Lorena Mae (Stark) Surgis. He attended high school in Springfield and graduated in 1965.  Wally was married to Sharon Jones in 1969 and they later divorced. Sharon passed away in 2024.  Wally married Christine Boehme on October 13, 2001, in Litchfield, IL. Wally was a member of the United States AirForce and served in Vietnam. 


Wally was employed at Echlin Manufacturing for over 20 years before his retirement where he worked as a tool and dye maker.  Wally was a member of the VFW, Moose, American Legion, and the Elks.  He loved to fish, play the guitar and listen to music. He was an huge Illini Fan. Wally could tell a good story. He was very sharp-minded and was great at telling jokes.  He enjoyed coloring, photography, gardening, camping with his kids when they were young and he loved cats. 


Wally was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter; Emily Surgis, siblings; Frank Surgis,  Lois Surgis,  Barb Skaggs, Helen Pierce,and  Mary Ann Surgis.  


Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, 4- 7 pm at Litchfield Family Funeral Service, 700 South State St, Litchfield, IL.


Funeral Services will be conducted at 6:00 pm, Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Litchfield Family Funeral Service, Litchfield, IL


Burial will take place in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL, on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at 11 am.


Wally is survived by his spouse, Christine Surgis of Litchfield, IL, daughter, Kelly S. (David) Sumpter of Litchfield, IL, son, Walter "J." (Cindy) Surgis, III of Springfield, IL, grandchildren; Zachary (Hannah) Christensen, Brady Christensen, Katie (Andy) Johnson, 2 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
